Shrove Tuesday tradition: doughnuts are traditionally eaten particularly often at Shrove Tuesday, but why? The tradition dates back to the Middle Ages and is linked to the fact that Lent begins after Shrove Tuesday. A good opportunity to feast again. After all, the Duden dictionary defines the Berliner as a “spherical pastry made from yeast dough, usually filled with jam and baked in floating fat”, which provides plenty of energy!
